High stakes tournament star Daniel Negreanu is banned on the Twitch Poker platform for unleashing a torrent of hatred. The Canadian was responding to an apparent slight aimed at his wife and clearly overreacted.
Daniel Negreanu Oversteps the Mark
It is understandable to feel some rage when your life partner is insulted, but there are limits to what a public figure can say without repercussions.
Daniel Negreanu is one of the most high-profile figures in the poker industry. His lengthy stint at the top of the all-time money winners list for live poker tournaments made him a target for all ambitious players.
This, along with his long-term relationship with PokerStars, means that for the good of the game he has to maintain a good public image.
Two explosive tirades in the last couple of weeks have shown a different side to Negreanu. Completely out of character from what we are used to.
Is this the real Daniel Negreanu?
We don’t know exactly what set off the outburst because the comment was quickly deleted by moderators, but the video clip was there for all to see.
“Hey, Tom Estrada, go fuck yourself, you piece of shit. Block that cock motherfucking piece of shit. Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you in your ass. How about that?”
“Okay, Tom Estrada, fuck you in your ass. Eat some of that, you piece of shit. Come fucking step to me and say that and I will knock you the fuck out. How about that?”
Not quite what we expect to see from a WSOP 2020.
Out of Control
Poker threads on social media, particularly Twitter, can get rough and ready real quick, but there was little sympathy for Negreanu.
He has many long-time haters amongst high-profile players such as Shaun Deeb and Doug Polk, and they were more than happy to pile on the misery.
Deeb tweeted that he hopes Twitch bans him because it shows poker in a bad light.
I mean as much as I hate the guy in this clip that’s just not the way to represent yourself Or our industry hope @Twitch looks into this and bans his ass since @wsoponline won’t do anything https://t.co/E0ZsDDnG1L

It is now clear that the ban from Twitch is a permanent one rather than a slap on the wrist. Probably because the rant continued in an out of control fashion.
Negreanu followed up with,
“I’m not fucking around. I will break your fucking teeth if you step to me, and I will feed’em to you anally. How about that? How about that?”
“That’ll teach you for a fucking stupid comment like that”
I would prefer if he hadn’t made disgusting comments about my girlfriend. He revealed his true colours yet again last night and I really think it’s a shame that GG took him on after Pokerstars shit-canned him. It sends the wrong message. Poker deserves better ambassadors.

Negreanu Left with YouTube
It’s not the end of the world for Negreanu. YouTube is much more lax in banning accounts right off the bat and he can continue his streaming on that platform.
Last night during his stream he also made a formal apology. This, at least, goes some way to repairing his reputation.
“I would like to formally apologize for suggesting that breaking a troll’s teeth and then feeding them to him anally is the appropriate way to deal with an opposing viewpoint,”
“…in the future I will simply ignore the comment and hit the block button,”
With the episode seemingly all done and dusted he can now concentrate on picking up that elusive seventh WSOP gold bracelet.
With more than $1,000,000 taken in side bet action on this happening it will end up being a summer to forget if he can’t make it happen.
There’s still plenty of time to go though. Maybe he can find some spare minutes to read up on the terms and conditions of the streaming platforms.
Also, maybe, just maybe, Twitch will see fit to reverse the ban as it was out of character and a public apology was quickly made.
