Introduction:

Chico Poker Network (formerly known as Action Poker Network) has grown into a safe and popular US-facing network following its change of management and rebranding. Betonline is the second largest skin on Chico after Tigergaming and is Chico Poker’s flagship US-facing skin.

Despite some past issues and growing pains, Betonline has grown into a large and reliable US-facing gaming operator. Betonline’s large sports-betting and casino client base creates very soft games on the poker side. Overall, Betonline is a safe and reliable place to play against a weak, US-facing player pool.

Traffic and Games:

Most of Chico’s players are American and Canadian. Thus, all games run in USD and traffic peaks during North American evenings and weekends. The vast majority of traffic is at NL Holdem, however one or two PLO games run at each limit up to NL400 and occasionally higher during peak times. Traffic is split roughly 70%/30% between 6max and FR games and is good from microstakes to midstakes. Typical traffic at peak times is 15-20 tables of NL25, 5-10 tables of NL50, 8-10 tables of NL100, 5-6 tables of NL200, 2-4 tables of NL400 and 1-2 tables of NL1k. The playing field is weak with multiple casual players per table being the standard. Yearly, casual traffic peaks in autumn and winter as the NFL season and MLB playoffs begin due to the large proportion of casual sportsbettors visiting the poker side.

Typical low and mistakes traffic on Chico.

SNG and tournament traffic are decent. In particular, Double or Nothing SnGs from $10+1 to $33+3 and the weekly Saturday 10k guaranteed are quite popular on Chico.

Software and Tracking:

It’s obvious that the BetOnline software is tailored to the recreational player who isn’t picky about their poker client. All of the basic features work and games run smoothly, but there’s no denying that the client is significantly behind the industry standard. There isn’t much downtime and hands run quickly, but it is incredibly annoying that timing out while facing no bet is counted as a fold rather than a check. Advanced lobby sorting, disconnect protection, timebank, auto-rebuy and auto-topup are not available either. Another annoying feature of the Betonline client is that a blackjack table opens on the side of each poker table. This makes tiling tables challenging and taxes one’s focus and system resources. Overall, BetOnline is not a good fit for mass-tablers and we recommend against playing more than 4 tables on a single monitor.

Still, the software does everything it has to, looks decent and has some graphical customization options. One particularly nice feature of the client is the inclusion of live chat support built into the lobby.

Despite a lack of gameplay options, BetOnline’s lobby is attractive and easy to navigate.

Holdem Manager and Pokertracker are not natively supported by the software, however we offer 10% discount on the hand converter, make sure to get your HUD and tracking software running.  For more details please click here. Tables scale and tile poorly due to the mandatory Blackjack table on the side, but we can provide you with the old client version to have them removed.

Cashier and Payment Options:

Neteller, Skrill, Credit Card, Bank Wire, MoneyGram, Money Orders and Cheques are available as deposit and withdrawal options.

Rake Structure and Rakeback:

Stake Rake Cap at HU tables Cap at 4max/6max/FR tables
NL2-NL6 5.5% $0.25 $0.50
NL10 5.5% $0.50 $1.00
NL25-NL50 5.5% $1.00 $2.00
NL100 and higher 5.5% $1.50 $3.00

Rake at BetOnline Poker follows the structure above and is calculated using the weighted contributed method.

Conclusion:

BetOnline is a good choice for Americans and European players looking to play against a weak player pool. Though the software leaves much to be desired, volume at American peaks is good and a large portion of the player base are recreational players from the sportsbetting side. Overall, BetOnline is a solid choice for players, those who prefer smaller networks with soft playing fields and those willing to accept less than ideal software.
