Venetian Dealers Forced to Pay for An Overlay in Poker Tournaments

Jeff Boski has revealed that Venetian dealers have to pay for an overlay in poker tournaments. If a tournament does not meet the guarantee, then it is the dealers who end up missing out.

Jeff Boski calculated that potentially this can reduce the dealers’ hourly rate to as low as $6. Not a good state of affairs.

Boski then revealed that he broke a five-year boycott of the casino only last Friday before finding out about this guarantee situation.

Pondering whether to continue the boycott, he then realised that this would only end up hurting the income of the dealers even more.

Poker Twitter didn’t seem very happy about the news that a multi-billion dollar business would penny pinch like this with staff often relying on tips to make a living wage.

Another pointed out that it is not the dealers’ responsibility to draw players in and this is simply a way to avoid losing even the slightest amount of profit.

The idea was framed as being an opportunity for dealers to earn more when the room thrives, which often happens according to some posters, but the upside is unlikely to be amazing and when they miss out it’s a big hit.
