An attempted robbery at a Houston poker club last Thursday has resulted in a security guard suffering seven gunshot wounds. At 6 am, several suspects attempted to carry out a swift robbery of Texas Card House and its patrons but instead ended up embroiled in a gun fight with the guard.
Harris County police haven’t released the full name of the guard — known as Officer Jackson — but he is expected to make a full recovery. Nobody else at Texas Card House was injured during the robbery.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted out to give an update on case. He said that dozens of gunshots were fired and the assailants escaped but it is unknown if any were struck by gunfire.
Police are currently investigating the crime but no further information has been made public.
It has been reported that the suspects didn’t manage to make it inside the poker club after Officer Jackson disarmed one of them resulting in the gun battle.
Officer Jackson Lauded a Hero
KPRC 2, a Houston TV channel. Spoke to a Texas Card House dealer named Andrew who said:
“I walk back in, 40 seconds later, pop, pop, pop. All I saw was bullets coming through the window.”
Tommy Wilson, CEO of God’s Armour Security and employer of Officer Jackson, gave an update on Jackson’s condition and what transpired that morning:
“Our security officer came stumbling back in the door and told us that they had left and that the threat was over.
“I’ve been with him all morning. He has good spirits. All of the bullets exited his body except one and we’re waiting to see now if he has to have foot surgery.
“There are no words. Thank you. For what you did. You truly, you put your life on the line for us and you didn’t have to. Who does that?”
