Artur Martirosian Victorious in Final Triton Monte Carlo Event

Artur Martirosian has taken down Triton Monte Carlo Event 16: $50K – PLO 6-Handed for $345,000, plus an additional $180,000 in bounties.

The Russian also won the $30K NLH Bounty Quattro tournament earlier this month.

Ike Haxton was once again denied a Triton title as he picked up his 44th Triton cash. For such a player, this must be some serious run bad.

Action Recap

The 75 entries wasn’t the most we’ve seen in this series, but the $1.875 million in the prize pool was more than enough to fight for.

Santhosh Suvarna and Joni Joukimainen were the unfortunate players to break the bubble in a spectacular double all-in with three players at risk.

Dan Smith picked up two bounties to further increase his chip lead.

Danny Tang, Zhou Quan, Sam Greenwood and Stephen Chidwick all just missed out on a final table appearance which lined up as below.

Ren Lin – 3.675m (74 BBs)

Dan Smith – 3.46m (69 BBs)

Ronny Kaiser – 2m (40 BBs)

Isaac Haxton – 1.89m (38 BBs)

Michael Duek – 1.58m (32 BBs)

Artur Martirosian – 1.565m (31 BBs)

Richard Gryko – 935,000 (19 BBs)

Brit Richard Gryko must have thought he had a chance with 19 big blinds, but how wrong he was.

Lin opened A♣ 8♥ Q♣ Q♠ and Gryko three-bet with A♥ J♦ 4♦ K♥. Lin came back over the top with a four-bet and Gryko obliged him and called.

Lin hit his club draw on the turn and Gryko was off the final table after a single hand.

Only a couple of hands later Michael Duek cracked Ronny Kaiser’s aces to leave only five players in.

But that nice pot wasn’t enough to keep Michael Duek going as he was next to hit the rail. A much needed flush draw didn’t materialise and Dan Smith increased his stack even further.

This left four Americans lined up against a single Russian.

Ren Lin had always been near the top of the leaderboard during the event but his luck finally ran out when he jammed his last four big blinds into Martirosian who hit the nut flush.

Smith got away lightly in that same pot but in the very next hand, the Russian took his chips anyway.

Smith’s 10♥ 10♣ Q♦ 2♦ came up second best to Martirosian’s 4♥ Q♥ 9♦ 6♠ which made a straight.

Martirosian went into the heads-up match with a two-to-one advantage — 35 big blinds to 15.

We weren’t expecting a long, drawn out fight and that’s exactly what we got. The first time the chips went in was the final hand of the tournament.

On a board of Q♣ 3♣ 10♥ 6♠ all the chips went into the middle with Martirosian holding 8♣ 9♣ K♥ 8♠ and Haxton K♣ Q♦ 5♦ 3♠

Haxton was leading with two pair but the 4♣ river saw Martirosian hit his flush to take down the event and $525,000 in prize money and bounties.
