Tony G Lifts Triton €25k Short Deck Trophy

The legendary Tony G celebrated in style this week after scooping the Triton €25k Short Deck title at the partypoker MILLIONS Live festival, winning €237,250.

Real name AntanasGuoga, the poker pro-turned politician in his native Lithuania lifted his first tournament win in 2 and a half years at the Kings Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic.

The final table included the likes of Kings owner Leon ‘Loose Leon’Tsoukernik, highstakesUS pro Cary Katz, Triton co-founder Paul Phua, and partypoker pro Kristen Bicknell.

Short Deck’s popularity has surged over the past couple of years. Triton brought the game out of Asia and to the attention of the poker masses.

Paul Phua, instrumental in the popularisation of the 36-card variant, was, unfortunately, the first to fall.

Flopping top pair and an up and down draw, he looked set to double up, but the river gave Tony G a broadway straight and Phua was out.

He would find consolation the following day, though, making the final table again, this time in the partypoker€25k full deck version of the SHR, eventually finishing 4th for €112,500.

Back in the Short Deck event, Liang Yu would be the unfortunate bubble boy. This meant that the short-stacked Malaysian Choon Tong Siow had made the money, a 5th spot and €61,000 when he fell shortly afterward.

Yake Wu survives four all-ins

Katz was next to hit the rail, dominated by Tsoukernikplaying on home turf, but the Kings Casino boss wouldn’t survive much longer himself.

Tony G flopped a set of sevens and Loose Leon was out in 3rd for €104,500.

Heads-up against Yake Wu, it looked like Tony G would settle the match on several occasions. However, the Chinese player somehow survived four all-ins.

Eventually, though, the deal was sealed in favor of the man who grew up in Australia and became a household poker name for his loudmouthed table antics, and of course his great skill.

Celebrations naturally ensued, but by the next day, the victor was already on his way home. That’s the life of a full-time pro no longer Tony’s day job.
