Rick Salomon dominating on Day 1, Daniel Negreanu makes incredible fold

Day 1 of Super High Roller Bowl V was filled with worldclass tournament poker and some amazing reads and folds.

Hollywood home game legend Rick Salomon was the only player, who used his two add-on chips before the start and this strategy paid off as he finished the day on top with 806,000 chips.

Another player, who managed to play his absolute A-Game was Kid Poker Daniel Negreanu. He made some impressive reads including one of the best folds of the year 2018 against Mikita „fish2013“ Badziakouski:

Daniel finished Day 1 in 3rd place with 623.000. Other notables in the Top 10 include Stephen Chidwick (4./553.000), Nick Petrangelo (5./460.000), Adrian Mateos (7./378.000) and David Peters (9./344.000).

The tension was high on Day 2 as players were fighting for the final table. Number 1 in the GPI, Alex Foxen, got off to the perfect start when he busted Sean Winter in a massive pot:

With that hand he took over the chiplead and soon after his stack got another huge boost when he send Nick Petrangelo to the rails in a massive cooler:

Alex went on to make the final table, which also puts him on the verge of winning GPI Player of the Year.

In the second half of the day, poker wizards Ike Haxton and Stephen Chidwick took over. The latter managed to bust Daniel Negreanu in 9th and also made Mikita “fish2013” Baziakouski the unlucky bubble boy, after winning a preflop all-in with Pocket Tens against AK.

The two will start today’s final table as head-to-head chipleaders: Ike Haxton is chipleader (2.415.000 chips), but Stephen Chidwick is hot on his heals with  2.405.000.

Completing the final table are Igor Kurganov, Ali Imsirovic, Talal Shakerchi and tournament crusher Adrian Mateos:

And it was Haxton who took over control right from the start and applying pressure on his opponents. His stack got a nice boost when he send Ali Imsirovic to the rails with Ac-5c against Imsirovic’s Pocket Jacks making him a big chipleader.

Next ones to bust were Igor Kurganov, Talal Shakerchi. Then came the time of Alex Foxen, who elimated Adrian Mateos in a preflop all-in with Ac-Ks against Pocket Nines from Mateos.

Foxen entered 3-handed play as massive chipleader. After a while Ike send Stephen Chidwick packing in 3rd after getting it in pre with Pocket Jacks against Ad-Qh and hitting a set on the flop and we were Heads-Up.

Alex Foxen still had the lead at the start of the Heads-Up, but both stacks were almost even:

  • Alex Foxen – 5.840.000 Chips
  • Isaac Haxton 4.965.000 Chips

However, Ike quickly took over the lead and extended it further and further until the start of this hand:

Isaac Haxton took home an incredible $3,672,000 for his victory, which is also the biggest cash in his long career.

Alex Foxen still got a staggering $2,160,000 for his Runner-Up finish, which should have secured him the GPI Player of the Year title and is the crowning of his phenomenal year.
