What is the Battle of the Malta?
When we’re not talking about the famous World War II military campaign, the Battle of Malta is an annual poker tournament series. This year, it’s held October 15th through October 22nd at Casino Malta in the town of San Ġiljan (St.Julians).
The guaranteed prize pool of the events combined is an impressive €1,000,000.
The buy-ins for the scheduled tournaments range from just €60 all the way up to the €5,300 Mega High Stack event. The Day1A of Main Event, titled “Let the Battle Begin”, starts on Wednesday, October 16th. There’s 4 Day1’s on the schedule – action is guaranteed to be abundant.
Last year, the French Julien Stropoli was crowned BOM champion. He managed to beat a 3,816-player field in the Main Event and pocketed €168,500 along with his trophy.
Furthermore, as seen in the video above, even Finish poker legend Patrik Antonius made an appearance in the 2018 Battle of Malta.

With flip tournaments, you can test your luck. In these events, everyone is automatically all-in pre-flop, and the deck alone decides the fates of the players. The buy-ins for the MGN flip satellites are €1.50, €2, €5 and €33.
In freezeout tournaments, on the other hand, you need to utilize your poker strategy skills. However, if you lose your stack there’s no second chance, you’re out for good. The buy-ins for freezeout satellites are €1.50, €2.20, €5.50, €11 and €33.
However, MGN rooms also run rebuy satellites. The buy-ins for these are €11 and €33. If you bust out you can re-enter with a starting stack for half price. You also have the option to buy add-on chips for €5.50 in the €11 event and for €11 in the €33 event.
All these events have high value tickets to bigger satellite events as prizes. You’ll have to win a lot of hands, but you too can get your hands on one of the €1,500 Battle of Malta packages.
