Players claim that Some US Poker Sites Have Taken Money Out of Their Bank Accounts

A number of professional poker players are reporting that they have lost considerable sums of money through unauthorised transactions to US poker sites.

Poker Pros Lose Money to US Sites Through Unauthorised Transactions

High stakes players Sam Panzica and Joseph Cheong were the first to tweet about losing money. Panzica wrote that $1,900 was taken from his bank account and BetMGM Poker claims to have no record of the transaction.

Joseph Cheong said that he doesn’t even have an account with BetMGM Poker or BetMGM Casino and he lost $9,800. He added that this looks like poker players are being targeted by individuals who have personal information.

Todd Witteles also a Victim

PokerFraudAlert forum owner Todd Witteles tweeted that he was also a victim and has been fulfilling his usual investigative role for the last week, trying to get to the bottom of this.

Kyna England added that she was scammed through a third-party online casino connected to her WSOP.com account.

Witteles has concluded that BetMGM is the vehicle for the fraud but not the source of the breach.

I am in contact with some BetMGM executives today. More to come regarding that. FYI, BetMGM seems to be the vehicle being used to commit much of the theft, but not the source of the info breach.”

He later posted a tweet warning other players to check their accounts if they have deposited to legalised US poker sites using eChecks. Adding an offer to contact him to help with the investigation and promising to post a long write-up later in the day.
