Patrik Antonius to open high stakes poker room in Monte Carlo

Tired of travelling for a good high stakes cash game

Patrik Antonius, who once was one of the most shining stars of the poker scene, was not seen much around in the last years.

He hardly plays live tournaments anymore and also online he was not much around, while focusing on the biggest live cash games.

Here is the reason:

“I’ve been very good. I’m very happy with my life situation, I can’t complain. You know, I haven’t been traveling for the events. Life changes a little bit and my lifestyle has changed as well. Online isn’t interesting for me anymore. I don’t see there being a lot of action and I can’t see myself doing well.”

That’s why Patrik is still regularly travelling to Vegas to play in the Big Game with the likes of Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen and Daniel Negreanu.

It seems there was a lot of action lately and it has been going well for Antonius:

“The games in Vegas have been nice; we had a lot of fun. We’ve played a lot of crazy sessions with play around the clock.”

However, Antonius wished he didn’t have to travel so far to find a good high stakes cash game.

Patrik Antonius plans to open his own poker room

This probably brought him to the idea to open his own poker room in his place of residence Monte Carlo:

“I can’t share any details yet but if we could get a nice poker room in Europe that would be good for a lot of people. I am in the late stages stage of opening a poker room right in Monaco. There is a market because there’s a group of players who want to play high stakes but aren’t interested in much travel. People would fly here from all over the world,” he said. “It would be very easy to organize good games here. We just have to get proper rake so it’s reasonable.”

Monaco – Country of the rich and famous

It’s a great idea knowing the fact, that Monaco is the the richest and most expensive country in Europe.

Monaco

Many rich people are living here and it is no secret that businessmen love to play high stakes poker.

In addition to that, the PokerStars Championship, one of the biggest and most important live tournaments in Europe takes place here every year and brings all the top players to the country.

So the story checks out and we wish Patrik Good Luck for his new project!
