Bill Perkins about to cover legal expenses

Bill Perkins has thrust himself deep into the Postlegate scandal. The highstakes amateur player stepped in to help fund a defense against Mike Postle’s $330million defamation lawsuit.

Perkins also stated of Postle: “I believe he cheated, I believe he had a hack of the live broadcast and help from inside.”

News that alleged cheat Mike Postle had launched a huge lawsuit broke this week, targeting many of his opponents in the long-running livestream cheating affair.

Veronica Brill was named first as a defendant, and she was joined on that list by Daniel Negreanu, Doug Polk, ESPN, and many others – Brill’s GoFundMe appeal detailing the most recent twist in the saga…

With a bare minimum of $20k required to even consider defending the lawsuit, the poker community was soon on the case – that target reached in less than 24 hours.

Along the way, Bill Perkins made an incredible offer to help out…

Perkins was quite clear as to why he was contributing to Brill’s fund. He explains in a series of tweets: “I so wish I was the one being sued. Would have a discovery field day, casino, phones, metadata the whole nine plus more..”

He continued: “I believe he cheated, I believe he had a hack of the live broadcast and help from inside. I believe phone messages which the carrier keeps will be consistent with those beliefs. Come at me!”

Postle, in his lawsuit, revealed for the first time what he claims to have been doing with his phone during the Stones Live Poker sessions he is accused of cheating.

His eyes were set on his own crotch so often that it even spawned the phrases ‘Crotchgate’ and ‘Crotch Theory Optimal’ (CTO) while it is claimed Postle sometimes used technology hidden in his baseball cap.

The final cost of defending such a lawsuit, however, could well be over $50k per defendant. Brill explained that the initial cost of $20k would only be for an anti-SLAPP defense.

According to medialaw.org, ‘Anti-SLAPP laws are designed to provide for early dismissal of meritless lawsuits filed against people for the exercise of First Amendment rights.

‘The acronym ‘SLAPP’ stands for ‘Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation’ – a phrase coined by two law school professors in the late 1980s.’

The Postle Lawsuit

For many of those named by Postle in his lawsuit, finding defense funds isn’t likely to be a problem. ESPN especially, with Negreanu and highstakes sports bettor/poker player Haralabos Voulgaris both extremely wealthy men.

ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt covered the Postle case on his SportsCenter ‘Next Big Thing’ slot.
