Mike Matusow has tweeted his disgust at the continuing situation of players being able to register into tournaments on Day 2 with more than two thirds of the field already out. He promised to do everything in his power until the day he dies to end this scourge on the game.
Till the day I die I will continue to do everything in my power to end day 2 reg into any poker tourney with 2/3 of fields out! If you want to reg day 2 max you can get is 10 big blinds in nl or 5 big bets in limit! Wsop needs to stop catering to the rich at the expense of…

Mike is correct here. It completely perverts the concept of tournaments, allowing deep pocketed pros the ability to shave off a full day’s worth of play, giving them a way to leapfrog much of the field, in exchange for coming in short.
It shouldn’t be allowed.

Todd Witteles, a guy who usually has his finger on the pulse, agreed, explaining that Day 2 registrations works heavily in the favour of professionals, allowing them to mis a full day’s play and overtake recreational players later in the tournament.
Mike Matusow’s solution is to allow players registering on Day 2 to get a stack of only 10 big blinds. He continued by firing out at the WSOP, asking how many of the 92 bracelet winners in 2023 were won by late registrations.
Many of the tweets fired shots at online poker platforms for being greedy and encouraging late buy-ins only in the pursuit of more rake.
I agree with you completely. They want to maximize rake they do not care about the typical recreational player. They also allow known cheaters to continue to play, they want their rake too.

Todd Witteles did his best to explain how registering late in multi-table tournaments has a strategy of its own and allows and advantage to the better-informed players.
At some point it becomes an advantage. If you could sign up on the bubble, would you? Of course, that would be a gigantic edge. What about bubble+1? Same. So at some point it becomes a tremendous advantage to register late. What point is that? Not sure.
