Dan “Jungleman” Cates Faces Criticism over New Integrity App

Almost as soon as he posted the tweet, Jungleman was hit with a slew of replies suggesting that there is absolutely no need to publicly rate skill on the app. This is almost certainly true.

Jungleman Announces Poker App and Gets Criticized for Rating Skill of Players

Why go ahead with adding a metric that is purely subjective and open to debate? Even if a skill rating was included, most people would disagree with the given rating due to their own biases.

Matt Glantz even went as far as suggesting that this might only be to inflate his ego.

Will Jungleman’s App Allow Destruction of Reputations Anonymously?

Another poster, David Yan, also brought up the subject of an anonymous system being unfair. This would make it possible to destroy somebody’s reputation almost without reply.

Yan also reiterated that there is no benefit to rating a poker player’s skill level alongside their integrity, to which Jungleman replied that he now agrees.

As good an idea as an integrity review app sounds, there hasn’t yet been any indication as to how malicious ratings can be prevented.

After all, this isn’t going to be a legal document where users face repercussions for damaging somebody’s reputation. We hope Jungleman will clarify further just how he intends to deal with this dynamic.

What about Jungleman’s own Integrity Issues?

There will be more than a few readers who remember Jungleman’s own integrity issues last year.

He was the central figure in a scandal where top-level pros were ghosting accounts of amateur players against the likes of Bill Perkins and Dan Bilzerian for big bucks.

Jungleman later apologised, but this is still fresh in the memory of the poker community. On poster commented that he will be near the top of the list for being an online cheat himself.

“I played very few hands against Bill Perkins, who sat in a game I understood was rampant with professionals who were ghosting.”

“I thought since many on the site were using pros to play for them (which was clear by the uniquely high level of play) at the time it felt acceptable for me to be playing. Unfortunately Bill got caught in the crossfire and I’m very sorry for that.”
