The 51-day race for WSOP PoY status lasted until the very last event on the final day. It took cashes worth $4,006,440 across eighteen live bracelet events and six online bracelet events, with five final tables and one gold bracelet to seal the deal.

For fans of the game it was a pleasure following the mostly three-way race between Deeb, Martin Kabrhel and Benny Glaser, with the remarkable PPC/Main Event double thrusting Mike Mizrachi into late contention.

While Glaser was wining an amazing three gold bracelets, and Kabrhel was seemingly everywhere at once, it took Deeb a little longer to get going this year.

Multiple minor cashes had him trailing his rivals, with Daniel Negreanu (PoY in both 2004 and 2018) and Brian Rast also in the early mix. When he started to motor, however, the 2018 Player of the Year proved impossible to stop.

A third-place finish $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Championship was his first big showing, followed by a runner-up finish behind Allan Le in the $1,500 Razz.

Another second, in Online Event #12: $600 No-Limit Hold’em Monsterstack, was the prelude to his only win of the series, but it was a huge win.

Deeb scooped Event #79: $100,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller ahead of a 121-entry field of the game’s biggest and best 4-card fans, pocketing $2,957,229 from the $11,676,500 prizepool.

He was back in content in again almost immediately but couldn’t quite close out the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack, losing out to Kabrhel’s countryman Zdenek Zizka.

A few more cashes would close his account at 24 total cashes worth $4,006,440 and 4,191.10 points in the leaderboard race.

Glaser’s triple-bracelet run this summer brought him ever-so-close finishing less than 40 points behind Deeb, while Mizrachi’s $10million Main Event victory — in addition to 11 other cashes, including the highly-coveted Poker Player’s Championship — launched him into 3rd place.
