The Serbian-American has been on the live circuit for a long time now and was overdue a bracelet after accumulating almost $7 million winnings from live events.

The other bracelet win for the day was Kelvin Kerber and Peter Patricio snatching victory in Event #65: $1,000 Tag Team No-Limit Hold’em for $184,780.

The Brazilian team have been on a 14-year poker journey together and now finally they have made one of their poker dreams come true.

Andjelko Andrejevic Wins One of the Toughest Events on the Schedule

Andjelko Andrejevic has bagged a victory in an event which many pick as right up there with the toughest over the summer.

Not only was it tough but he also had to navigate through a field of 1,168 entries to claim that first bracelet.

“It’s something that every poker player dreams of. It’s a breath of fresh air to finally be here. I came in as the short stack and was just trying to hang on, won a couple of lucky all-ins.

“Three-handed, I turned up the aggression and made some hands. Heads-up was one hand, so it was great!” we’re going to celebrate tonight. And then I’ll be back to continue the rest of the series.”

Action Recap

There was high anticipation for the finale of this event. Only five players returned for Day 4, each feeling that they had what it took to seize that bracelet.

With that in mind, play was particularly slow for the first couple of levels while everyone settled in with one eye on the large pay jumps.

Andrejevic was the man at risk in the early going but he was also the recipient of the first two double-ups, eventually working his way into an early lead.

It didn’t last long, though, because before long he was back to being the short stack, wondering how he could climb out of this hole.

Brandon Sheils was the first casualty of the day, his A♠ K♣ coming off worse against the A♥ 2♥ of Niall Farrell when a deuce came on the flop.

Less than an hour later Matthew Zambanini was also gone, exiting in fourth place with a $282,471 prize.

The players then initiated talk of a chop but that was put to bed right away by the tournament director.

Andrejevic took this as his cue to begin his charge to victory, picking up pot after pot, mostly against Farrell, until the Scot was out and we entered the heads-up stage.

Heads-up could have been entertaining but the poker gods had the players all-in on the very first hand with 5♠ 5♥ versus 7♠ 7♥  with neither player hitting the board to give Andrejevic the win.

Kerber & Patricio Win WSOP Tag Team NL Hold’em

Kelvin Kerber and Peter Patricio have been grinding together in the same stable since the days of Black Friday. More than 14 years of putting in the hours at the same tables.

So it was fitting that they got their first slice of glory at the WSOP together in the tag team event under the duress of a three-day grind at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

That resulted in the lion’s share of the $1,208,240 prize pool, and, of course, their first bracelets.

After their win, Kerber told reporters:

“Oh man. It’s real. It’s the dream that everybody that starts playing poker looks to. He has been playing for a bit more than me. We have been friends for my whole journey. We were in the same stable 14 years ago. That’s how we met. Now we are partners at the table.”

Patricio added:

“When we started the tournament like that, you never really expect to go that far. He had a tournament to play, so I said, okay, let me play now and you’ll grab me later. Then he came and he played for like a day and a half.

“I was just playing between breaks for him. We were like 30 left with a big stack, and we decided, let’s switch whenever you feel like, okay, I don’t think I’m on my A-game anymore. We didn’t mind switching a lot. We kept switching, and it was working.”
