All varieties of the CGWC have been well-supported so far with CoinPoker going the extra mile to feature great prizes, but this is the big one — high-stakes NL Hold’em and the best players in the business.
Linus “LLinusLLove” Loeliger is many people’s shout for the best online cash game player in the world over the last few years and he’s getting stuck in against many of his usual rivals.
Owen “PR0DIGY” Messere is another big name looking to stake his claim for a second Cash Game world championship title. The Brit already has a one of the Rolex watch prizes in his collection and is one of the favourites to snatch this one.
But eight days into the event and neither of these two stars feature in the top 10 leaderboard. Loeliger is currently $240,000 in the red after only 15K hands.
The current leader is Spanish superstar Roberto “DavyJones922” Pérez who has been crushing everything he plays for some time now. With more than $300K in EV winnings over less than 6,000 hands we can safely assume he is the current favourite.
Mystery player “Riggedeck“ is also in the mix. Usually seen playing with a Bulgarian flag but we have no name to tell you, he showed his class when he finished runner-up to Messere in the inaugural CGWC in January of this year.
And finally, Wiktor “Limitless” Malinowski has joined the fray. One of poker’s biggest characters who is always up for a challenge and he ended his first session $9,000 up after only 1,600 hands.
LLinusLLove Bluffs Into Quad Aces
One of the more interesting hands of the last week saw LLinusLLove pick the wrong time to show off an ambitious bluff.
$10,000 deep, LLinusLLove raised to $220 from the cutoff and DavyJones922 three-bet to $1,2000 in the big blind. LLinusLLove called.
The flop came down A♣ 8♠ 4♥ and DavyJones922 c-bet $462.50. LLinusLLove made the call.
The turn was the A♦ and DavyJones922 declined to slowplay, instead firing out another bet, this time of $843.75. LLinusLLove opted to call again.
The river was the 6♠ and again we saw a small bet from DavyJones922, choosing to bet only $1,265.75 into a pot of $5,062.50.
Well, this was a red rag to a bull and LLinusLLove didn’t think for long before jamming all-in, assumedly putting DavyJones922 to a decision for the rest of his $6,228 stack.
LLinusLLove soon got the bad news and we see him flip over 5♠ 5♦ only to find out he was up against A♥ A♠ for quads.
The High Stakes Cash Game World Championship might not be going too well for the Swiss cash game legend, but he did manage to put a smile on some faces when he pulled off a monster hero call against CoinPoker representative Ryan Depaulo in a VIP game.
LLinusLLove opened from MP and Depaulo made a speculative call with 3♠ 2♠.
The flop was K♥ K♠ 4♠ and Depaulo raises the c-bet and gets a call.
The turn was the K♦ and LLinusLLove leads out for a small size. Depaulo called.
The river was the K♣ and now LLinusLLove checks. Depaulo reckons he can rep the ace-high flush draw and goes for the jam all-in.
LLinusLLove thinks for a short while and then snaps it off with 8♣ 8♠ leaving Depaulo shouting “What” at the top of his voice. Welcome to big school!
