Interview with Linus “LLinusLLove” Loeliger – For many the best No-Limit Hold’em player in the world

About LLinusLLove

You are 22 years old, crushing the highstakes online games for $millions anonymously and then…someone reveals your name!

That’s where the LLinusLLove story officially begins – Linus Loeliger outed as an even-more modern-day Isildur1, though he claims he was too young to remember that story!

Recently, Loeliger revealed this and much more as he sat down for a rare interview at the Triton Poker stop in Montenegro.

As LLinusLLove, however, his tale had already grown to legendary proportions before he made his first appearance as a ‘real-life person’ in the Pokerstars Barcelona $50k Super High Roller in 2017.

That poker news was overshadowed by a horrific terrorist attack in the Spanish city during the event, but looking back it was a momentous moment for the young Swiss pro.

He told Pokernews of his naming: “I mean, it has to happen at some point. There’s nothing I can do about it,” though explaining: “I prefer to stay out of the spotlight, because usually there’s nothing good coming from it, especially in the poker scene”.

By then he was firmly established as one of the brightest nosebleed cash game players in the world, moving first to Malta with just a laptop and a one-way ticket to grind $0.25/0.50.

“It was an adventure – not really scary”, Loeliger told Lee Davy this week in Montenegro, more of which later.

Afterwards Vienna became home, and LlinusLLove was well on his way to a $1.5million profit against the biggest names in the game…

It takes a big bankroll, and even bigger balls, to mix it with the likes of Timofey Trueteller Kuznetsov and the as yet unidentified OtB_RedBaron, but by 2017 Loeliger was already a match for the world’s best.

Five-figure pots are the order of the day for the highstakes heroes, the following two topping Loeliger’s biggest-ever according to highstakesdb…

Of course, the highest level of play – especially online – can appear completely unnatural to those of us grinding the lower stakes, but as Joe Ingram reveals in the following video, it’s not even clear to fellow pros what on earth is going on sometimes…

The transition from online play to the live game is a natural one for many, and although the move was partly forced on Loeliger he seems to have managed it pretty well.

In 2017 he stated: “I’ve actually done quite a lot of work in MTTs as well”, adding: “I’m feeling very, very comfortable in my tournaments. It’s not a big transition.”

By the following year, 2018, he was lifting a WCOOP High Roller title and $587,000, proving he was more than just a cash game specialist.

Which brings us to this week’s Triton Poker interview, Loeliger talking to Lee Davy at the close of the Montenegro stop of the Super High Roller Series.

“It was all really sudden that I was playing highstakes”, Linus explained when quizzed on whether it had always been a dream to battle with the world’s biggest players for the highest stakes.

It took him a while, by his own quick standards, to join them, Linus admitting to Davy: “I was always a bit respectful of other people’s games, which is what was holding me back”

“Moving up to $25/50 and playing with the real big boys of the game was the most fun for me,” says the man whose first heroes in the poker world were the High Stakes Poker crew of Tom durrrr Dwan, Phil Ivey and Doyle Brunson.

For those wondering what it takes to get to the top and stay there, Loeliger explains his own winning formula, and it is all rather simple.

”I think I just work a bit harder than most people, especially online, and I think I have a good attitude – I’ve always been very ambitious about becoming the best…it’s easy to remain at the top once you are there!”

Loeliger’s story is a modern-day poker tale if ever there was one, and if you’re keen to know his biggest enemy, how not to go bust, what he thinks of Short Deck and why Pokemon is a part of his life, you can check out the full LLinusLLove Interview below!
