New WSOP Documentary AI Faked Quotes from Alan KeatingThe fraudulent quotes did at least consider real quotes that Keating had said, but they were jazzed up without justification.

Iannotti posted his admission on X — later deleted — adding that Keating wasn’t aware of what he had done and nor was he even consulted.

For those that missed the furore earlier in the week, high-stakes cash game favourite Alan Keating appeared to criticise tournament poker on the NO LIMIT documentary, saying that it wasn’t real poker.

“Tournaments are more like checkers to me… I don’t think tournament poker is the most pure form of poker. Wait…I did just sugarcoat it.

“I don’t think tournament poker is poker. It’s horrible, it’s a lottery. For me, poker at its purest is playing for irresponsible sums of money.”

New WSOP Documentary AI Faked Quotes from Alan KeatingAs the weekend began, Keating posted on X that he had noticed some inconsistencies in the latest episode of NO LIMIT and accused them of putting words in his mouth.

At this stage, though, we weren’t 100% sure of what had transpired, but it didn’t take long before Iannotti responded.

“We used AI technology on two brief sequences during post-production, totaling approximately 10 seconds across the 55 total minutes  of episode 5 and 6.

“As we’ve discussed with Alan directly, we should have consulted him on these editorial choices.”

Iannotti then tried to dig himself out of a hole by talking about how well received the documentary has been, ending with “We stand by our work and the overall integrity of the docuseries.”

We also learned that Iannotti leads Alan Keating’s YouTube channel production team, though we’re not sure how long that collaboration will last after all this.

So Iannotti apologised and said that it was all an oversight, but another player who appeared in NO LIMIT, Alex Keating — not to be confused with Alan — also publicly griped at the apparent use of a “fake voice” and reediting to change the context of what was said.

His statement was quite damning for the brand:

“I no longer want to be a part of this. And I do not give consent to voice over and spliced editing Please contact me before releasing more episodes.”

And as if to make things even worse, once Iannotti had revealed that his voice was only fake because the audio file was damaged, he wrote that editing things out of context is standard practice for all shows. All documentaries and reality TV shows do this, he said.

K.L Cleeton was far from impressed, revealing that he has years of experience working behind the camera and that this is akin to a journalist losing the trust of readers.

“You didn’t edit things out of context! You created entirely new words! I’ve done what you’re doing. I know better, and so should you.

“Documentary subjects place incredible trust in producers to represent them accurately and fairly. You breached that trust and are now failing to apologize in a manner that shows you understand how absolutely disgusting the behavior is.”

So, is anybody surprised? Well actually yeah because back in April of this year, Dustin Iannotti posted an elaborate tweet accusing the poker content industry of being creatively bankrupt.

He wrote that golf is slow, chess is silent, and wrestling is fixed and yet all three disciplines are a multi-million dollar success. Why isn’t poker?

Well, as it turns out, that post was also likely produced by AI. But let’s not all jump on the hate wagon. It looks like Dustin Iannotti still got plenty of love for his passion and it’s easy to see his heart’s in the right place, even if he messed this one up badly.

And with all that in mind, the World Series of Poker has just posted an apology of its own at the time of writing. Though after reading the comments it appears as if it needn’t have bothered!
