Final Action

By the time the final table was thinning out, Michael Rocco was the man on the move.

Aliaksei Boika was sitting on the turn almost certain he was heading for a timely double-up, but then the lightning bolt came on the river and Rocco flipped over a straight flush to nail his opponent in fifth place.

Oliver Weis soon followed and then Rocco was eliminated by Nakanishi who now had a massive stack.

Entering into heads-up play, Frank Funaro was a considerable underdog with a huge chip deficit, but the Japanese player was stunned by what happened over only eight hands.

Two previous bracelet winners staring each other down and only one would leave with their second. But it was all over in a flash as the rub of the green went squarely in Funaro’s direction.

In his winner’s interview, Funaro said:

“I feel like I’ve been close in a lot of these, and it feels really good to finally get one done,” he added.

“I tried to embrace the madness and got really lucky. I was short, I rounded it up, and then I was short again.

“It was a swinging Super Turbo. The table was full of professionals; it wasn’t the easiest final table. But luck was on my side. There were a lot of tough spots, and they all went my way. And I thought I played relatively well, all things considered. I’m very grateful.

“I’m going to the Millionaire Maker right now! Next week, my girlfriend and my brother are coming, so we’ll do something next week.”
