The first post-WSOP weekly SHR on GGPoker saw numbers restored to normal, some 138 entries at $10k apiece building a $1,380,000 prizepool.
The players were chasing five 6-figure scores up top and by the time Tuesday night came around, only eight contenders remained.
Leading the way was Theologis with a healthy ?? stack, playing his 55th GGMillion$ SHR which had so far produced three final tables, over $1million in cashes, but as yet no wins.
Bringing up the rear, Latvia’s Aleksejs Ponakovs with a mere 8 big blinds, looking to spin it up to something more than the $53,130 already locked up.
He managed that, courtesy of Oscar Cueva busting first, pocket jacks twice running into aces that hit the flop, and then Nikita Kalinin coming a cropper…
Nikita Kalinin: 10♣ 10♦
Artiom Lasouskii: Q♠ Q♦
Kalinin, with 20 bigs, opened from the hijack and when Lasouskii 3-bet from the big blind, he had a decision.
In the livestream commentary room alongside regular host Jeff Gross, Robert Mizrachi (brother of this year’s WSOP main Event winner Mike Mizrachi) was adamant: “I don’t see anything besides a call….raising is incorrect,” pointing out Ponakovs’ less than 3 BB stack. Kalinin had other ideas, and jammed.
Flop: J♥ 3♣ 2♣
Turn: 4♠
River: 6♦
Ponakovs handed his fumes over to Theologis next hand, out in 6th for $87,114 and he was followed to the virtual rail by Canada’s Pascal Lefrancois whose “solver approved” shove didn’t work out, the river below bricking…
Poland’s Mikolaitis soon found himself as the short stack, though not exactly short with 30 bigs, but when he picked up a big hand, Lasouskii found a bigger one…
Dominykas Mikolaitis: Q♠ A♥
Artiom Lasouskii: K♠ K♣
They got it all-in pre as you might expect, but although we got a sweat on the turn, Lasouskii’s flopped set held up…
Flop: 3♥ K♦ 9♠
Turn: 10♦
River: 9♦
Three-handed play was over almost as soon as it began, a gross flush-over-flush costing Lasouskii all the chips he had just won and many more…
Lasouskii was officially out next hand, leaving Theologis and Dominguez heads-up, a 3:1 chip lead for the Greek man flying the UAE flag. The cards also favoured the chip leader; every time Dominguez made a hand, Theologis made a better one.
Finally, a river bluff shove was picked off by trip treys and Theologis had his first GGMillion$ victory, Dominguez having to settle for the runner-up paycheck of $234,194.
