Niklas “Lena900” Astedt is the new biggest online tournament winner of all time!

We have another dethroning in the online poker world. However, “history” has taught us to take this piece of poker news with a grain of salt.

Niklas Astedt Hits $17.9 Million in Online MTT Winnings, Becomes Number 1 of All Time

The Swede Niklas Astedt aka Lena900 overtook Péter “Belabacsi” Traply from Hungary on PocketFives’ all time top MTT winners’ leaderboard. The new number 1 has cashed for a total of $17.855 million in online tournaments as of now.

Niklas Astedt has been grinding very prolificly on PokerStars in the past weeks. He had made 34 ITM finishes in just the last two weeks. He didn’t break the bank with any major high roller scores. His biggest cash in that sample is $26,920 – he got that for finishing second in a $150 NLHE Winter Series event.

Lena900 has been on the online MTT scene for a long time. His earliest recorded result is from November 2008.

The History of the PocketFives Leaderboard

For a long time, Chris “Moorman1” Moorman from the UK was considered the biggest online poker tournament winner of all time. That changed in June last year, when Péter “Belabacsi” Traply jumped on top of the PocketFives leaderboard after making his results public.

That brings us to the problem with the famous P5 list. It’s not entirely reliable.

Many major online high rollers choose not to make their score sheet visible to the public.

Just a few months ago, in October, András “probirs” Németh appeared in the top spot for a brief period of time. However, he too decided to hide his results soon afterwards. Cached versions of his profile page were the only evidence of him having more in MTT winnings than his fellow Hungarian Belabacsi.

Who knows how many high rollers are “hiding” out there? We see a lot of the same screen names in the ITM positions cashing for tens of thousands of dollars on a daily basis in Natural8’s famous $25K Blade high rollers. Yet they don’t usually have P5 pages to keep tally of their scores.

However, Lena900 deleting his page doesn’t seem very likely. He had his results on public display for years now.

Also, please note that the problems with the P5 list don’t take anything away from Lena900’s spectacular career in online poker. Having said all that, here’s what the top 5 looks like now:
