The pair battled all day in heads-up cash game matches, starting at a “modest” €1,000,000 and increasing to €6,000,000 before they called it a day.

It’s fair to say that the Onyx Super High Roller Series Cyprus has put the new venue on the map with a bang. We’ve had a schedule of tournaments stacked with top talent that rivals the Triton Super High Roller Series.

Jesse Lonis took down the $102,000 Onyx SHRS NLH Invitational a couple of days ago for $1,745,625. And then in the early hours of yesterday morning Daniel Rezaei was victorious in the $51,000 Onyx SHRS Championship for $1,043,530.

Jungleman and Monarch Put on a Show that Leaves Fans Begging for More

High-stakes cash games that run alongside a prestigious tournament series tend to be entertaining, particularly with the right mix of characters.

What we don’t usually get is multiple high-stakes heads-up battles for seven-figure sums.

On Monday, Monarch paired up with Kayhan Mokri to put on a $10,000/$20,000 NL cash game where both players bought in for $2 million and would play until one of them held all the chips.

Over five hours, we witnessed what was the biggest televised non-tournament heads-up match of all time, and it all went down to a single hand which was a massive cooler, leaving Monarch fuming and demanding a rematch for $5 million.

Mokri wasn’t available for another round but Jungleman was more than happy to fill in yesterday.

The first match was for €1,000,000 each, won by Jungleman after only 19 hands. Both players were eager to repeat and this time Monarch won his money back.

The Finn was now into his stride and encouraged Jungleman to raise the stakes with him. This time €3,000,000 would be the buy-in for each player!

Jungleman had the initial advantage in this match but the momentum was all Monarch’s. Eventually a hot run and back-to-back coolers gave Monarch the stack he needed to close out another victory.

Would Jungleman come back from this? He was certainly confident enough because the stakes were now bumped up to an eye-watering $5,000,000.

But when the match actually began, Jungleman didn’t look to be the same confident player. It was easily noticeable to the viewers.

Monarch quickly pulled out a significant lead, holding almost two thirds of the chips in play, but Jungleman is a fighter and the turnaround was fast and efficient until all of the €5,000,000 was in the American’s hands.

The rematch would be played with the same €5,000,000 buy-in but this one was all one-way traffic with Jungleman taking his opponent to school.

The young Finn, who was now €7,000,000 in the red, wasn’t ready to give in at this point. Incredibly, he even had the stakes raised to €6,000,000 for what would be the final match.

Jungleman was out of the trap quickly again in this one, taking a good bite out of Monarch’s stack. It looked as if it could be all over in a flash before a monster pot occurred, breaking the record for the biggest televised live pot of all-time.

Jungleman Plays €7,700,000 Pot

With blinds of €30K/€60, Jungleman raised to €250,000 with A♥ 8♣ and Monarch quickly three-bets to €600,000, holding A♣ J♣.

Jungleman glances across to his opponent and thinks for half a minute before throwing in a four-bet of €1.4M. After some thought, Monarch makes the call, leaving €3.73M behind with a pot of €2.8M.

The flop ran out 5♣ 7♠ Q♠ and both players checked.

The turn was  the J♠, locking the hand up for Monarch and he checks again. Now Jungleman decides to take a stab with a bet of €1.2M which Monarch calls to make a €5.2M pot.

The river was the A♦ and now Monarch jams in his chips, leaving Jungleman with a nasty decision for the biggest poker pot ever seen on TV. If he calls it would be a shocking eight figures!

But eventually, while comically munching on a breadstick, Jungleman scowls and pitches his hand over the line.

Although Jungleman was nearly at a two-to-one disadvantage, he did begin clawing it back soon enough, even hitting a royal flush moments later.

The turnaround came when he won an 80 big blind pot with two pair beating a weaker two pair. The rest was all technique against an opponent who is clearly talented but not up to the standard of Jungleman who is one of the best ever to play the game.
