Spanish and French player pool joined since January
On the 16th of January PokerStars reached a milestone by becoming the first online poker site to offer a shared liquidity platform.
Back then they launched their French-Spanish site with combined player pools from both countries.
This was a huge deal for both the PokerStars Network and the players as shared liquidity means more traffic, a wider selection of games, more action, and bigger prize pools.
The response was fantastic with a huge increase in action at the cash game tables and tournaments smashing their guarantees.
So far, the shared liquidity has been a huge success and the growing player numbers brought a massive increase in prize pools aas well as continously improved and bigger promotions.
According to PokerScout.com PokerStars Europe now is the third largest online poker site in the world.
“Non-resident players are able to play on the Pokerstars.es License”
“Non-resident players in France or Spain are able to play on the pool by registering on the .ES. License, with the exception of residents of a country subject to a national regulation.”
This came as a big surprise, given that PokerStars.fr explicitly prevents players from outside France from opening accounts.
“PokerStars Benjamin” said the different rules were due to the company’s belief that:
“The new shared liquidity will be of sufficient size to accommodate foreign players without negatively impacting the ecosystem, which was no longer the case in .FR before the transition to shared liquidity.”
Portugal and Italy next to join Pokerstars.es shared liquidity pool
But this is just the beginning as Italy and Portugal are also expected to join the shares liquidity pool soon.
Guy Templer, chief operating officer of the Stars Groups said:
“We look forward to extending the combined player pool to Italian and Portuguese players, and we offer our full support to the relevant authorities in those countries to do so.”
Director of Poker Innovation and Operations at PokerStars Severin Rasset confirmed that Portugal will enter soon:
“For Portugal, we’re hopeful for a Q2 launch.”
Earlier in February, 2018 the Portuguese Gambling Regulatory Authority (SRIJ) has approved a resolution to authorise shared poker liquidity with other countrie finally after the regulators made the agreement in July, 2017.
There is no date announced yet, we expect Portugal to join the Pokerstars.es shared liquidiy pool with France and Spain in Q2.
Apparentely it took a bit to convince the Italian regulatory bodies to proceed and approve the deal but what we understand is that they are ready to join the liquidity pool and we expect this will happen in Q2 2018 as well.
