PaiWangLuo is a Hong Kong based investment group that has just acquired the Bodog Poker Network. The new ownership will not only rebrand the network but also expand the reach of their service.
The history of Bodog Poker Network
The Bodog Company launched in 1994 as sports book. In 2004 they have added a poker room to their online casino service. Despite all their efforts, the poker room had difficulty obtaining a stable player pool.
After the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) passed in the U.S., the biggest online rooms had to withdraw from the market, leaving loads of space for Bodog.
It took about a year for the Bodog Poker Network to take over the U.S. poker market. From that point forward the the Bodog Poker Network was the largest provider of online poker in the United States.
Designed with the recreational player in mind
Bodog made a strong stance on providing a fun experience to the recreational players.
The steps they took in order to achieve that included a removal of the waitlist feature and full tables from their poker client as well as replacement of the usernames with an anonymous naming system.
PaiWangLuo acquired the Bodog Poker Network
The new owner of Bodog is an investment group PaiWangLuo from Hong Kong. Not much is know about this company. Despite the lack of information about the new ownership, there is info on their plans with the Bodog Poker Network.
The backbone of their plans is the exponetional expansion of their service in the LatiAm region. “The LatAm region has long been seen as a growth area for the online gaming industry but we felt leading with poker was the best point of entry as we have made such a strong name for ourselves in this arena,” said Ed Pownall, the Bodog brand spokesman.
The newly named PaiWangLuo Poker Network will expand the Bodog brand into Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela, Chile and Colombia.
We can expect that this expansion will boost the liquidity of the network and enable the company to offer even more value packed promotions and an even better service than before.
